According to police, a highway supervisor observed a speeding 2019 Nissan Pathfinder on the Long Island Expressway at about 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, Nassau County Police said.

The Supervisor stopped the vehicle to conduct a vehicle and traffic law investigation. Upon approaching the vehicle, the supervisor was able to determine that the driver was taking his wife to a local hospital and she had given birth on the way in the backseat of their vehicle. 

The supervisor requested a Nassau County ambulance and additional units to respond. The ambulance was able to support the birth of the child and provide medical assessments on the newborn and mother using advanced life support and advanced assessment. 

The baby girl and mother were safely transported to a local hospital in a Nassau County Ambulance, while escorted by Nassau County Highway Patrol Units and 6th Precinct units.
